Maiden voyage

Slap on a deck, transom and a motor, you got a boat

Bolting in the joists

Are landscape timbers suitable for joining pontoons? Are they too heavy? Will they rot?

Shut up with those annoying questions and get moving. That seemed to be our credo.

Pontoons

On May 17, Terry and I shelled out $400 -- our major capital outlay -- to procure two 24-ft pontoons from Karl B. of Highland Park. Karl, a contractor, was kind enough to deliver the pontoons to the Camden launch where we met him, unloaded the pontoons, and towed them down river to our shipyard. Karl threw in, gratis, six sheets of treated plywood and a transom -- all of which proved useful.

Let the scrounging begin

Tim W. inspects some landscape timbers tangled up in the log jam at the Port of Minneapolis. Eventually, Terry and I extracted 11 8-ft timbers, which we used for floor joists.
